HORTICULTURE I (10-12)
This is the first course in a sequence that provides the student interested in horticulture or a horticultural-related career with basic knowledge and skills. Experiences and instruction pertain to plant science, soil and water management, plant additives, pests and pest management, fruits and vegetables, floriculture, landscaping, nursery/greenhouse, turf, and business principles.
HORTICULTURE II (10-12)
This course builds on what students learned in Horticulture I. It broadens experiences and provides related shop training, participation in FFA National Agricultural organization activities, and practical hands-on application. Prerequisite: Horticulture I.
HORTICULTURE III (11-12)
This course is third in a sequence and provides advanced knowledge, skills, and understanding through formal instruction and applied experiences. Instruction emphasizes business principles and management of nurseries/greenhouses, marketing, designing nurseries, floral designing, uses of technology in various career areas, computer applications, individualized special interest areas, and the pesticide applicator’s license. Through multi-sensory activities and problem solving activities, students learn linkages among science, math, language arts and social studies skills and the impact and significance of technology in all aspects of the industry. FFA National Agricultural Organization activities in which all students may participate are available. Prerequisites: Horticulture I and Horticulture II.
